Biography

KrishDi_edited.jpg

You can hardly think of Diana Purim and Krishna Booker without recalling their mentors and predecessors, Flora Purim & Airto Moreira, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. This Grammy nominated, music writing, production and performance duo have been working in music individually and together for over 40 years. If you haven’t heard of them yet, you’re not alone. The talented couple is one of music's best kept secrets.

Krishna and Diana secured their seats on Flora & Airto’s production team in the early 1990’s and have been making music with them and others ever since. Flora’s latest album on which Diana sings the title track, If You Will was produced by Krishna and Diana. The project was nominated for a Grammy in the category of “Best Latin Jazz Album” and garnered them recognition as producers, guest artist and arranger.

The music of their forefathers is a distinctive part of Diana’s and Krishna’s artistic DNA. However, Eyedentity is a project that came into being as the two artists united in a quest to individuate themselves. Their album, País Da Maravilha (Wonderland) released on Ropeadope Records is a culmination of life’s influences and a honing of the project’s fusion of styles. Heavy on multicultural rhythm and multilingual word-play, their music induces euphoria, lifts up spirits and cleanses the soul. True to form, Eyedentity continues to evolve and create new music.

Soundcheck

“This is Brazilian Jazz for a new generation… It’s a brilliant display of the bi-cultural nature of this flawless album.”
NPR.Alt Latino
“Both demonstrated an adeptness with their respective crafts that justified their spots onstage even without considering their histories...Though the two could have easily stolen the show and left their bandmates without recognition, they left ample room for their group’s other members to exhibit their instrumental prowess, which each did with gusto.”
Daily Californian
"If you're looking for something fresh and exciting to add to your playlist, look no further than Diana Purim & Eyedentity."
Music Notes Global
"I say bravo! The sound of Diana Purim's voice is a welcome addition to the world of music, as well as the vocal punctuation of Krishna Booker's percussive embellishments."
Wayne Shorter

"Krishna Booker leads the ensemble with a dazzling lyrical rap style, while Diana draws upon the Brazilian style of her mother, singer Flora Purim, albeit with her own signature sound."
